Here you’ll find tips, articles and strategies about what life is like as a middle age woman, personal development, finding your true focus, family, online marketing, vegetarian foods, social media and entrepreneurship. I’m updating my blog often with good stuff that I want to share with you so please check back often.
Let me start by telling you a little bit about me:
I was born in Shreveport, LA, the eldest of two children; I have a younger brother, Kerry. We were country kids and grew up on a street where everyone knew each other; my grandparents lived a few houses down from us. When I walked through our back yard and crawled through a barbed wire fence I had acres and acres of cow pasture to play in. I’d take off in the mornings and would come home when I heard my Dad’s whistle across the distance; each kid’s father had a unique whistle so we knew when it was ours.
The times were very different from today. My parents didn’t worry when I was gone for hours. My Mom would give my brother and me big plastic bags and send us off on hot summer days to pick blackberries. We’d eat as many as we picked and would shoo the snakes away. When we visited my great-grandmother, who had no running water but had an outhouse, I’d once again have to shoo the snakes away. It’s amazing that I never got bit. Yes, I came from very humble beginnings.
Young and Happy
I was a happy kid who was always on an adventure and didn’t worry too much about anything. I was taller than most, skinnier than most and had bright carrot colored hair. I was a tomboy who loved to play baseball, could climb a tree with the best of them and just did my own thing. I felt very comfortable in my own skin during this time in my life.
My Adolescent and Young Adult Years
The summer after my sixth grade year my family moved from Louisiana to San Antonio, TX. This was a pivotal time for me. I went from a small town environment to a big city and it was quite an adjustment.
The move to San Antonio corresponded with the time in life when I was going through puberty. I was very aware of the changes happening in my body and felt very self conscious about them. Insecurity took a strong hold. I didn’t like my red naturally curly hair, I didn’t like my southern drawl and I wanted to be like everyone else … oh to disappear into the crowd. There was no disappearing for me though; I always stood out and there was no hiding.
The next few years I continued to struggle with my insecurity but always hung in there. I had several different jobs, had a small group of friends and settled into young adulthood.
The Biggest Change and the Greatest Blessings in my Life
When I was 24 years old I became a mother and my life turned upside down. I fell in love with my first born, Brandon, and with motherhood. It was amazing to me that this precious, perfect, beautiful little being had been given to me for safe keeping.
I experienced a paradigm shift in my focus. My entire purpose from that point on was to raise this child and to give him every opportunity to be successful in life. Based on my life’s experience up to that point, I made a promise to Brandon and to all my future children that I would do everything in my power to encourage independence, self confidence and high morals and that they’d always know they were loved and accepted no matter what life brought to them.
God blessed me with six children, five boys and one girl. Throughout the years I never lost sight of the promise I made years before to all of them. I’m happy to say that all six of my children have far surpassed my dreams for them; they are all very productive, respected and moral people.
Ten years ago I became a grandmother, the greatest gift of all! I now have five beautiful grand-babies and they call me Née Née. It is music to my ears when they come running and yelling my name, arms spread wide with big smiles on their faces. I am truly the wealthiest woman on this earth!
Becoming an Entrepreneur
While working at home with six children the entrepreneur bug hit me. During those years I started a crafting business, became an editor/publisher of a national magazine, started a web development company and an online book business.
I became a national speaker, wrote syndicated articles and even had a spot on HGTV complete with a Hollywood Blooper! When I look back on this time of my life I can see that my self-confident was growing. I grew to love what made me different; I now enjoyed the red curly hair, the southern drawl and my individuality. Once again, I felt very comfortable in my own skin. Isn’t it great to grow up!?
Finding my Life’s Purpose
The seeds of my current beliefs about self strength and life’s purpose started to bloom when my children were young. Because I was focused on developing self confidence and self esteem in them, I would teach them that that our thoughts and desires effect our results dramatically. They grew up hearing, “You have to see it, you have to believe it and then it will become a reality.” I instilled the belief that we have to believe in ourselves before anything else. When the book, The Secret, by Rhonda Byrne, came out I was so pumped! This is exactly what I’d believed for years!
Over the years I have continued to study how to be the best person I can be, how to use the Law of Attraction to create the life of my dreams and how to use this approach in all parts of my life, both personal and business. I would read, and continue to read, Eckhart Tolle’s teachings and I absorb his philosophy of living in the present. All of these teachings have helped me to know myself at a deeper level.
I now know, with all of my heart, that when you discover your life’s true purpose, your reason for being, you will enjoy the highest level of joy possible. Only then can you have true freedom in life. We create our own reality and the only way to start manifesting what we want in life is to DREAM IT, FEEL IT and LIVE IT or D. F. L. as I’ve called it for years.
Blogging, Social Media and Internet Marketing
I was blogging before blogging was cool years ago through Crafter.com, a website that I started in conjunction with my crafting magazine. Through it I wrote articles and shared what I was learning. I am passionate about helping others and this blog is my way to reach out and teach others what I have learned from some of the top online marketing experts out there. I want to share this knowledge and to introduce others to the home-based business opportunities that are working for me. This is a wonderful journey and one worth sharing!
I teach and live the same concepts I taught my children …
• You are great, you are powerful and you can do whatever you set your mind to.
• Life is precious and we need to slow down and enjoy it.
• Find your passion in life and then run with it because, with passion, comes power.
Let’s get connected!
